Grasslands was simply stunning... there were moments of perfection in the gathering of ideas, stories, movements.

GRASSLANDS
PROGRAM NOTES
28th - 29th November 2014

Welcome to GRASSLANDS.

Creating this work has been an extraordinary journey of discovery.  We have delved into this beautiful part of the world that has been our home for 5 years.  We have discovered a rich, complex and beautiful landscape with a long and deep history.  We have also been priviledged to get to know many people who also call Clunes home, some for many generations and some, like us, who are still discovering this place and it’s people.  We would like to thank the Dja Dja Wurrung First Nations people for welcoming us to their country. Elders of the Dja Dja Wurrung community and their forebears are the traditional owners of this land and have been custodians for many centuries and have performed age old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal. We acknowledge their living culture and their unique role in the life of this region. We are honoured to share this ancient landscape.
Many travel lines have been made across the Grasslands landscape to Clunes to create this show.  It has been a truly collaborative process and without the genius of the artists and locals involved it would not have happened.  The people listed below have gone above and beyond the call of duty to create what you see tonight and we thank them!
Ecologist Dale Tonkinson has been our Grasslands guide, his knowledge and passion for the complex ecology of the grasslands, of which we are a part, has been inspiring and given us the core of the show, and our grassy mound!
We hope you enjoy the show, which we would like to think of as a snapshot of what this little corner of the Grasslands of the Victorian Volcanic Plains have seen.
